Next month I'm getting a DV camera. I also have money enoug to buy everything i need to edit on my computer.

I've never edited on my computer. hen ever i did any editing it was on someone elses system. I got a new faster computer last year and finally I can buy some stuff for it to edit on.

Like i said I'm getting a DV. What else do i need? I don't have a way to conect the camera to the computer. What does the firwire conect to? What "card" do i need? What do i need to have an editing setup in my house. Anyone help?

if you are on wintel then make sure you get an OHCI compliant firewire card, this makes for maximum compatibility. a card alone will cost around 60UKP

for firewire only editing I would recommend you take a look at Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video, simply because it treats soundtracks as importantly as the video tracks, unlike premiere. and if you look hard enough, it's not too difficult to unlock the demo of SF VVideo

currently I edit with premiere6/DC1000 and although I can get excellent results, it's not entirely stable (surprise) -- when you edit firewire you are editing in software and this is rock solid

anyways, good luck with whatever you get

I have Adobe Premiere 6. Is Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video better than Premiere?

vegas video is superior on the soundtrack, but it lacks video plugin support -- but it has all the wipes and tranistions you need etc.

if you have prem6 then i guess you should stick with it and curse when you have to do work with those fiddly rubber bands ...

the demo of vegas video is free, and it does come with an uninstaller ... http://www.sonicfoundry.com/Products...FeatureID=5496

anyone who's used sonic foundry products will tell you how excellent they are ... but is is a matter of taste of course.

For what its worth, I've been using Ulead's Media Studio Pro for all of my capture, edit, etc. If you go to Ulead's website (http://www.ulead.com/) they have a product comparison which shows you what features you get with MSP vs. Premiere and AfterEffects. For the money, I don't think you can beat MSP. Its very stable, and has a killer rendering engine. There are also a series of hacks you can use to incorporate PhotoShop plug-ins!
